Irrigation Projects

Despite having the wettest monsoons on the planet, an almost complete absence of scaled-up rain harvesting methods and a long dry season means that the Umiam basin is a region that experiences water shortages for periods, stunting possibilities of commercial farming.

The deluge of the monsoons cannot be directly harnessed for agriculture and is destructive at times, causing landslides. However, along with many collaborating experts, the SPV Society has realized the importance of saving water and also utilizing irrigation methods that are suited to the terrain to help improve the local farmers’ livelihoods.
