Community Infrastructure

Building a sense of community and improving daily lifestyle in villages across the Umiam basin is an important mandate of the SPV Society. Community infrastructure includes all infrastructure that provides the residents with a platform for cultural, social and talent-related expression.

These include community durbar halls where villages can host events, meetings, community-related health and awareness campaigns and others.  Sports and games facilities are also a part of the projects that come under community infrastructure.

Road Infrastructure

Owing to the mountainous terrain and hostile monsoons, transportation in the region is difficult as roadways and paths are constantly in need of repair. Some of the rural pockets still rely on dirt paths and trails for residents to travel to nearby places. The lack of good roadways is detrimental as it adds an economic burden to those who want to ferry produce to market centres and can be devastating during a health emergency. Generations have been living with such inconveniences and the SPV Society has earmarked some of its efforts to alleviate the conditions of the roads and pathways, including commissioning new ones.

Working together with established authorities and concerned line departments, the SPV Society identifies areas in the Umiam basin region where there is a need for up-gradation of roads, bridges and foot-paths. The Society then utilizes the funds at the ground level to ensure that the raw materials are sourced and the labour is mobilized.
